Friday the Thirteenth And The Black Cat
It was late at night on Friday the thirteenth in October 2000. I kept hearing what sounded like a kitten crying. After going out on the porch to see if I could still hear the noise, I realized it was a kitten crying and it sounded like the crying was coming from the big tree in the front yard. I went inside to get a flashlight, then I walked over to the tree to investigate. The crying was coming from up in the tree. When I shined the flashlight in the tree, I could see a tiny little black body and two big yellow eyes.

The kitten was about 10 feet up in the tree and I wasn't sure how I was going to rescue the poor thing, so I just kept talking to the kitten trying to sooth it while I thought about what I could do. Suddenly the kitten jumped towards me. I tried to catch it, but it landed on the ground in front of me.
I picked the kitten up and took it inside. It drank warm milk and ate canned cat food, and purred! My two cats came out to investigate and did a lot of hissing. The little kitten didn't seem to pay any attention to their aggressiveness at all. I had the feeling that the kitten had decided this was it's home because it was in a warm place, had food and drink, and me to cuddle it.
It didn't take me long to realize that the kitten had fleas, so I gave it a flea bath. That is when I discovered it was a girl.
This picture was taken the next day.

My son named the kitten, Pearl. She was our black pearl that came to us on a a cold, windy Friday the thirteenth night.

Pearl lives with my son and his other cat Bitsy. She is a wonderful, loving cat.

Sneak Attack
Every few days a new or relatively undiscovered Etsy shop is selected as a "victim," and at a pre-determined time multiple buyers visit the site and each buy one or more items. This results in a lot of sales for the "victim."
On Friday, October 3rd, the "victim" was Sock Monkey Greetings Etsy Shop. Before the "attack," this shop had a total of three sales. By the end of the day, the shop had 43 sales!
To Participate
Visit The Handmade Movement Website to find out the schedule of the next few Sneak Attacks. A few hours before an attack begins, there will be an Etsy Forum Thread with the words "Sneak Attack" in the title. You can post in that thread and feel the excitement build as the time for the attack draws near.
There are hints on the The Handmade Movement website about what kind of shop it is and the price range of the items, which start from being very affordable so that as many people can join in as possible.
At the time of the attack, go to The Handmade Movement Website to find the link for the chosen shop. Then go to that shop and purchase an item. Include the words "Sneak Attack" in the "message to seller". The shop owner will be informed of what is happening five minutes before the attack is to begin so they know what is going on.
This is a great way to help out shops that have 0 to only a few sales.

Featured Shop: Child's Play Crochet
Child's Play Crochet specializes in crocheted items for children.
I met Jen, the owner of Child's Play Crochet, at the Huntington Valley Living Arts Festival in Sept. She and I both had a table there. I liked Jen immediately! We both belong to the Made In Vermont Etsy Street Team and had talked many times via email, but had never actually met before the chance meeting at the festival.
